Longer wings and turbocharged engines are the two big changes to Tecnam’s P2012 as the Italian manufacturer introduces a Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) version of the twin engine aircraft.
The Tecnam P2012 STOL is “specifically designed to operate across the most demanding commercial airports in the world” said a Tecnam statement.
Tecnam claims the P2012 STOL is the only twin piston with Short Take-Off Landing capabilities compliant to the latest certification amendments. It offers a 3,680kg / 8,113 lb maximum weight and 11 seats.
The mini-airliner is in use by several regional operators and the STOL version is expected to appeal to those operating to more challenging airports.
Features include:
The increased wingspan and new Continental engines more than halve the takeoff run according to Tecnam’s figures.
At max takeoff weight of 3,680kg, the take-off run takes 275 metres (900ft) and to clear a 50ft high obstacle the takeoff distance is 425m. At the 3,630kg max landing weight (of special interest to operators who may be making short hops)the landing distance overa 50ft obstacle takes only 360m (1,180ft) and the ground roll is just 155m (510ft).
The Tecnam P2012 STOL, is available in the passenger and multi-mission configurations (combi, cargo, air ambulance).
The aircraft has already completed its preliminary flight test campaign and has entered its final configuration moving on to the certification phase in 2023.
