Norfolk-based The Light Aircraft Company (TLAC) is working on an electric version of its single-seat Kub microlight.
The eKUB is a single seater, electric microlight based on the standard Sherwood KUB kit.
The company, led by Paul Hendry-Smith, said in a recent communication that the eKub “is currently being built as a prototype working within a consortium of other organisations under the ‘EnabEl project’ which falls within the Innovate UK future flight challenge.
“However, the intention is to roll it out as a commercially available aircraft both in self build kit form and as a factory build option.”
The statement goes on to list various benefits:
“Over the last couple of months we have been progressing with the design and build of the new eKub,” continues TLAC.
“This includes: control panel design and modification, finalising throttle mechanism design and installation, tubular motor mount design and reconfiguration to hold the main battery and the battery controller, and CNC machined the motor mount block.
“The provisional composite mock ups of boot cowl, upper and lower cowlings have been completed and we’re currently awaiting a fine tuned design. This process has taken some modifications to get it just right and we still won’t fully know until power testing takes place.”
Landing gear, empennage and battery boxes finalised and fitted in the wings. “Our next step is to cover the wings. We are using Oratex UL600 for this.”
