British pilot Tracy Curtis-Taylor is fly her Boeing Stearman biplane across the USA following historic airmail routes. She will set off on 2 May from Boeing Field in Seattle and hopes to arrive in Boston on 30 May.
“It’s time to take to the skies again!” said Tracy. “The Stearman is now safely reassembled in Seattle and we’re ready to retrace the historic airmail routes across the States to celebrate the Centennial of Boeing and complete the circumnavigation of the world.
“We’ll be setting off from the historic Boeing Field on 2 May and will fly down the stunning Pacific Coast before turning inland to Los Angeles to fly across the great continent of the United States from coast to coast, with the goal to arrive in Boston on Memorial Day, 30 May.
“The route will take us through some of the great landmarks of America, including the Grand Canyon, the Mohave Desert, the Prairies and the Great Lakes, as well as some of the cities closely associated with Boeing and the pioneering days of aviation, such as Wichita, St Louis, Cleveland and New York.“Working with Boeing and the GREAT Campaign, I hope to share a message of inspiration and encouragement to women in all spheres, but especially to inspire a new generation of aviators and engineers and to promote STEM education at all levels.
“The airmail routes, developed by Boeing and made famous by Charles Lindbergh, will be the final journey before I return Spirit of Artemis to the UK to take part in RIAT and the Farnborough Airshows.”
