One immediate effect of Donald Trump’s win in the US presidential election is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) plonked on top of Trump Towers in mid-Manhattan. It is in place until President-elect Trump takes up residence in the White House on 20 January 2017.
At first the TFR covered a 2nm radius from the surface to 2,999ft and effectively closed the VFR corridor along the Hudson Rover, a popular sightseeing route. However, following representations by AOPA, the TFR has now been amended to give pilots access to the west side of the corridor.
AOPA said, “Pilots should exercise extreme caution while flying through the narrowed corridor. The TFR extends from the surface up to 2,999 feet agl and is scheduled to be in effect through Trump’s inauguration.
“AOPA appreciates the quick action of the FAA and Secret Service to restore access to the Hudson River while still maintaining Trump’s security.”
The TFR allows arrivals and departures from heliports and the seaplane base, as well as air ambulance, police and other emergency services flights.
