North Coates Airfield is close to Lincolnshire’s North Sea coast and the Donna Nook RAF Bombing Range. It’s a Danger Area also used occasionally by other NATO forces – most recently in night-time exercises by USAF Osprey tiltrotor aircraft.
So, this reminder from North Coates Airfield is timely:
“Pilots are reminded that the use of North Coates airfield in Lincolnshire is PPR. Telephone: 01472 388 850 Airfield Out of hours: 07952 923265.
“From Monday to Friday all aircraft MUST contact Donna Nook range on 122.75MHz while 15nm or 5 minutes away to acertain range status and follow their instructions.
“You would not want an unannounced close encounter with the military hardware to be found entering and leaving the range at low level! Pilots should also inform the range once they are on the ground. Telephone 01507 358 716 to confirm landing. Our thanks in advance for your co-operation.”
‘Donna Nook’ is a nearby salt marsh nature reserve, reputedly named after a Spanish ship The Donna which ran aground there during the 1588 Spanish Armada.
