A clean-sheet design for a composite, high performance, single engine, low wing, four-seat aircraft is underway by Chinese-owned Windecker Aircraft. The revitalised company recently completed the restoration of an original 1969 Windecker Eagle, which is about to go into production in China.
Windecker’s US R&D facility at Mooresville, North Carolina will design and develop the new aircraft. It will take advantage of technologies and materials produced since the Windecker Eagle was certified in the late 1960s.
The new aircraft will be designed by a team led by John Roncz, a renowned aerodynamicist, as Chief Designer. The American team will be responsible for all of the design elements, analysis, initial tooling and prototypes.
John Roncz said, “We want to enhance the image of China by producing the highest quality and best performing GA aircraft in the world. It will raise the standards for speed, efficiency and pilot/passenger comfort.”
Windecker China, currently preparing to manufacture the original Eagle for distribution in China, will add the new design to the production line when it is certified. Manufacturing facilities will also be developed in North America for production of the new design.
