Yakovlevs cease flying ops

After 25 years, 200,000nm in formation, plus 2,300 displays in 14 countries across three continents, the Henstridge based Yakovlevs has closed its hangar doors on operational flying.

Initially the team’s closure had been announced for the end of the 2023 season, but team principle, Jez Hopkinson, told FLYER, “After much deliberation we’ve reluctantly taken the decision to cease all flying operations with immediate effect.”

We recently visited Jez at Henstridge to talk about the reasons behind his decision and to find out what comes next. You can see that interview here

In the meantime, if you’re in the market for a ready-made display team, or just a Yak (or nine), drop Jez an email at [email protected]
