Austro to develop 6 cyl 280hp aero diesel

Austro Engine and Steyr Motors, two of Austria’s key engine development companies, have signed a cooperation agreement to develop a 280 hp 6 cylinder aircraft engine. The engine will be based on the Steyr Monoblock M1, featuring integral crankcase and cylinder head. According to Steyr, the engine has proven its robustness in demanding marine and special vehicle applications. Austro Engine is developing this engine for two Diamond Aircraft projects, the DA50 Magnum (single engine 5 seats) and the FSA (Future Small Aircraft) twin engine private and utility aircraft. Development, certification and production of these programs will take place at Diamond’s Wiener Neustadt facility. Click here for more
