Another new microlight has been approved by the British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA). It’s the factory-built TL 2000 Sting S4.

The Czech factory, TL-Ultralight, working with UK agents Paul Sanders and Peter Ronfell, has so far delivered five factory-built airframes to the UK. They are: G-DOOG, G-MCME, G-STJP, G-MPDF and G-CMLV, with another to follow.

“BMAA is thankful to the UK CAA for their pragmatic approach to this project and our partnership to streamline the approval process for new companies and products,” said a BMAA statement.

“A note of thanks must go to the owners who offered their aircraft for testing and to the test pilots involved, Chris Taylor and Dan Griffiths, for their input and contribution to the project. They continue to work with the UK CAA on the TL Stream LSM.”

TL-Ultralight, based in the Czech Republic, manufacture the aircraft and achieved UK CAA A8-1 manufacturer approval in April 2022. They were the first company based in the Republic to do so, additionally gaining approval in the record time of 4.5 months.

The Sting S4 has two seats side by side, a carbon fibre airframe and claims ‘unrivalled’ comfort. Standard avionics are Garmin’s G3X Touch, and there’s a choice of Rotax engines: 80hp 912, 100hp 912S or 115hp 914 turbo. It’s also possible to fit the 912iS engine with a fuel injection system.
