British aerobatic pilots Gerald Cooper (in CAP-232 G-SKEW) and Mark Jefferies (Extra-300S G-IIUI) have taken 8th and 9th places respectively in the World Aerobatic Championships which finished last week in Spain. Jefferies also came 8th in the World Freestyle Championships.
The British team finished fifth overall.
Overall winner of the (mens) championship was Ramon Alonso of Spain in a Sukhoi 31, with Frenchman Renaud Ecalle in a CAP 231 in second place. France was the team winner, with Spain in second place.
51 pilots took part.
Mark Jefferies commented, “Our Extra performed fantastically well with the engine enabling us to compete with the best in the world. Myself and Gerald Cooper placing inside the top 10 represents the best British performance since Neil Williams in the 60’s, this has only been possible for me with the world class support of Jade Air”.
Conditions in Spain included 36-degree heat and a 2,300 ft airfield.
