The UK CAA has begun reminding aeroplane and helicopter commercial air operators of the need to comply with forthcoming European-wide rule changes.
With one year to go before the changes come into force, holders of an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) are being engaged by the CAA in an awareness-raising campaign to ensure they suffer no business disruption because of non-compliance with the new European regulations.
An AOC Is required by any aircraft operator engaged in commercial air transport activity, including passenger and cargo operations.
By 28 October 2014, all current UK AOC holders will need to have obtained an AOC issued by the CAA under EASA regulations, to continue operating commercially. The CAA is working with operators to explain in detail the changes required.
The CAA has now written to all 127 affected UK AOC holders emphasising the need to begin the transition process well in advance of the October 2014 deadline.
The changes are part of a much wider process of harmonisation of European aviation regulations. EASA has already assumed oversight of other aviation functions, such as airworthiness and personnel licensing, with flight operations and aerodrome licensing now under way.
