The CAA has launched a consultation to replace the Light Aircraft Maintenance Programme (LAMP). The change, if approved, reflects the introduction of EASA’s Part M requirements for maintenance organisations and newer, higher tech general aviation aircraft.
A statement from the CAA explained, ‘Previously, a LAMP has been issued to every light aircraft owner with the aircraft’s Certificate of Airworthiness. It can then be customised to suit the needs of the specific aircraft type. LAMPs will now be replaced by a generic template that maintenance organisations can use to show the aircraft complies with the new EASA regulations.
‘The template has been developed with the full cooperation of industry stakeholders, who were strongly in favour of replacing LAMPs. Indeed, industry feedback revealed that the use of manufacturers’ instructions was something to be promoted, particularly with the more modern and technically advanced GA aircraft which are incompatible with the LAMP structure.
‘Aircraft owners with a customised LAMP simply need to hand it over to their maintenance organisation who will convert it into the new Generic Maintenance Programme Template. Owners who have not already customised their LAMP will need to pay a maintenance organisation to do this before it can be converted to a template. The CAA will not charge maintenance companies to do the extra approval work. The change will only apply to ‘EASA aircraft’.’
