Cambridge Airport to amend two-hour PPR

Cambridge Airport is set to amend its requirement for two-hours prior permission when flying in.
FLYER recently reported that Cambridge Airport had announced a requirement for ‘strictly two hours PPR’. A statement from the airfield read, ‘Due to increase in passenger aircraft activity and introduced late 2013 to promote safety at EGSC, all visiting light GA aircraft now need to book in advance.’ The booking was to be submitted through a form, available on the airfield’s website. Early feedback suggested this requirement would discourage GA visitors and was an unnecessary move for an airfield which has previously been a GA-friendly destination.
FLYER understands that plans are now in hand to remove the two-hour PPR. Terry Holloway, Head of GA Handling at the airport and an owner of the Marshall Group of Companies, explained, “We introduced PPR so that we can have people on hand to look after visiting pilots, should they need handling, and also so we can advise people on the operating hours of the Aero Club. PPR isn’t a unique requirement at UK aerodromes and we still require PPR. However, there should be no timescale for people to provide prior permission. Visitors to Cambridge should be able to PPR by radio, phone and form, with no time requirement and various airfield publications will be amended soon to reflect this.”
Terry added, “We have an active GA community of over 1,000 pilots and our Aero Club offers many benefits for members, as shown in our regular community newsletters. We are very enthusiastic about welcoming GA to Cambridge Airport and the Marshall Group of Companies has supported GA since we started in 1929.”
