Cirrus plumps for Williams engine

Cirrus Design revealed yesterday at NBAA that it will be using the Williams International FJ33-4A-19 in its upcoming “the-jet by CIRRUS” VLJ (Very Light Jet).

The new engines are a direct scale version of the FJ44, which means that the basic engine design is well proven, having already flown for 2.5 million hours.

Gregg Williams, president and CEO of Williams International, said “The new FJ33-4A-19 produces about 1900 lb of takeoff thrust, still weighs less than 300 lb, is extremely efficient, and will have the lowest noise and exhaust emissions levels in the industry.”

Cirrus announced the-Jet recently, by sending a mystery parcel to potential owners. The parcel contained a drinks coaster and an invitation to put a down a deposit of $100,000.
