Cirrus suspends SRS development

Cirrus Aircraft is set to announce a suspension of the SRS Light Sport Aircraft at a press conference at the start of Sun ‘n Fun in Florida. The SRS was to be a development of the Funk FK14 and would have been sold as an LSA in the US. Although the project isn’t being closed down for good, the suspension in development is for an as yet undetermined amount of time (which we think translates as ‘at least until this industry is well and truly on its feet again’).

We understand that Cirrus is offering to either refund deposits or to multiply them by a factor of five if the deposit holder chooses to buy a new SR20 or SR22 instead.

The news of the suspension in development was given to prospective customers in a letter from Cirrus CEO Brent Wouters. The news is expected to become official – along with other announcements – at the press conference today at Sun ‘n Fun.
