A few weeks ago it was all doom and gloom at Columbia Aircraft when it was announced that the company would be ‘furloughing’ may of its workers. At the time there was scepticism over whether the company would ever be able to re-employ them.
However, this week Columbia has announced that it is beginning to recall the workers, starting with those in the assembly, upholstery and subassembly departments. Others will be recalled in stages over the coming weeks.
The company says it has kept in touch with employees over the period, and has even held training sessions. It also says that its first quarter deliveries exceeded those of the first quarter of 2006, and that it has kept up its production rate of four aircraft a week.
The company manufactures the Columbia 350 and 400 range of aircraft.
