Continental announces diesel engine

Teledyne Continental yesterday unveiled their aero-diesel engine. It is a direct drive, horizontally opposed, four-cylinder, four-stroke unit that delivers 230hp. Rather than being a Continental design it has been licensed from a European manufacturer, and while it is not clear why TCM refused to name the company or engine involved, FLYER can reveal that it is SMA’s SR305. TCM was keen to stress that a licensing deal has been signed and that they will be working to further develop the engine with plans for a six cylinder 350hp. Certification of both engines is expected in 2011. Click here for more
