Coventry flying schools continue to trade

Following the news that Coventry Airport has closed, several schools and businesses based there are still operating. West Midlands Airport, the company that runs Coventry Airport, faces a winding-up petition from HM Revenues and Customs in the High Court

Almat Flying Club has re-located its flying lessons to Wellesbourne and Leicester airfield until the situation at Coventry is resolved, and is continuing to offer training with its fleet of Cessna and Piper aircraft. Almat’s owner Glyn Matthews commented, “Ideally we’re looking to gain permission to allow us to take off and land aircraft here, which would help us a lot. In the meantime, however, we are certainly still in business, along with a number of the other companies on the airfield. My advice to pilots would be for them to call the businesses concerned and find out what arrangements they have made to continue until somebody is found to take over the running of Coventry Airport.”

Atlantic Flight Training, meanwhile, issued the following statement: “Atlantic Flight Training is part of a Multinational group of Flight Training Organizations that remains committed to serving it’s pilot training cadets. The academy has moved its fleet to another airfield where pilot training continues uninhibited pending the outcome of current legal proceedings. We have no intention of closing Atlantic Flight Training because of these issues.”

As for the airport itself, the website www.coventryairport.co.uk reports, “The Board of West Midlands International Airport Ltd (WMIAL) is continuing its discussions to seek a resolution to the current situation.
