Cranfield flying schools receive notice to leave

At Cranfield, there are changes afoot for a number of flight schools which have previously leased buildings on the premises, including FlyCB and Azure Flying Club. FLYER received a press release from FlyCB MD, Robert McMaster, who explained, “I invested over £100,000 in new aircraft, spent a small fortune promoting my school at Cranfield and building a customer base over the last 12 months. On 10 October I received a letter from Cranfield’s solicitors telling me to clear our school offices by 31 October.” Azure Flying Club has also not had its lease renewed.
Cranfield University, the owner of Cranfield Airport, has responded with a statement. ‘As part of the Cranfield Masterplan, the University intends to redevelop an area currently occupied by several ageing temporary buildings. The University held a consultation exhibition of the Masterplan, during March 2014, outlining proposals for the development of the campus estate over the next 25 years.
‘The exhibition was available for staff and interested parties to visit, including tenants, many of whom attended to view the plans, providing them with the opportunity to give feedback for discussion.
‘Each of the tenants impacted by the changes are being consulted separately because of their individual tenancy agreements, in some instances with our legal representatives, so it would not be appropriate for us to comment further.’ More news as it’s available.
