Damyns Hall requests overhead awareness

Damyns Hall Aerodrome has noticed a sudden increase of aircraft flying directly overhead the airfield at or below 1,000 feet AAL since the ATZ overhead is no longer promoted.
Deepak Mahajan, CFI at Damyn’s Hall, explained, ‘One twin engine Seneca flew across from east to west and back from west to east as if bouncing back from the City CTR, thus crossing our final approach on Rwy 03 twice within less than a minute while I was training a student on his first approaches and landings. The Seneca pilot did not even spot my powerful landing light even when less than 300 meters away! Not quite an AirProx but it could have been if the student pilot was flying solo.’
The aerodrome is asking that pilots in the area be aware that Damyns Hall Aerodrome is home to many aircraft and is a very active club field with several flying schools. The team at the airfield is requesting that pilots call the airfield on the contact numbers shown in the flight guides and on the Radio on 119.550 before transiting overhead at low heights. Also, the team advises that pilots should remember that the London City CTA is Class Delta is active and overhead the airfield, so do not fly low overhead simply to avoid it.
The team added, ‘We welcome all to fly but please do so with extra caution as no restrictions put additional responsibility on the pilots.’
