de Havilland Flying and Engineering bursaries

Here’s a great opportunity for PPLs who would like to experience the unique charms of flying a GA classic. The de Havilland Educational Trust is seeking applications for the 2011 award of Fiona McKay Flying Bursaries and Engineering Bursaries. that it will award bursaries to fund ten hours conversion and consolidation flying on a Tiger Moth. The successful applicants are free to choose where they wish to fly, subject to approval by the Board of Trustees. The financial package on offer is based on the prevailing rate for ten hours flying at the Cambridge Flying Group.”
Applicants must be the holder of a UK Licence appropriate to flying in command of a British registered Tiger Moth aircraft and must have logged a minimum of 75 hours pilot in command at the time of application.
The Trust explained that the aim of the Bursary is to encourage licensed pilots to develop an interest and the necessary skills in handling vintage aircraft which can be carried forward as an asset to the vintage movement.
The Trust will also award bursaries to applicants with a current or future interest in the restoration, maintenance and repair of vintage aircraft and engines. Applicants will be required to provide a plan for their advancement in this field and details of how the receipt of an Engineering Bursary would assist. Previous recipients have been funded to provide manuals, tools, association membership, licence fees, instruction courses and work placements.
Following scrutiny of every application, the Trustees will invite a number of applicants for either bursary for interview at Cambridge in late April 2011. Additionally, candidates called forward in pursuit of a Fiona McKay Flying Bursary will have the opportunity of a 30 minute assessment flight in a CFG Tiger Moth at no cost to themselves.
Closing date for receipt of applications is first post on Monday 28 February 2011. Applications by e-mail or fax must be received no later than midnight GMT on Sunday 27 February.
