The DeltaHawk diesel engine is heading for certification and full-scale production after an investment in the company by a US family.
DeltaHawk Engines has announced investment from the Ruud family that gives them controlling interest in the company.
According to DeltaHawk, its new engines are smaller and approximately 35 percent more efficient than gasoline-burning aviation engines and can fly farther on less fuel and at lower costs. The design can also maintain 100 percent power up to 18,000 feet.
According to Ruud family patriarch Alan Ruud, “Our experience in transitioning innovative ideas from R&D to full-scale production is a perfect fit with DeltaHawk. This company has great business potential and a keen focus on the pulse of the industry and their customers.”
DeltaHawk will hire seven engineers immediately and continue manufacturing at its base in Racine, Wisconsin, USA. The company projects it will hire 100 more people in 2016 as it seeks to gain certification and sales of its engines for small aircraft.
The DeltaHawk engine is a turbocharged, compression ignition (ie diesel), watercooled V4, inverted two-stroke. It provides low fuel consumption exceptional reliability, high power to weight ratio (no valves, cam shaft, hydraulic tappets, magnetos, spark plugs, high tension cables), very low operational costs and can burn multiple types of fuel (jet fuels & diesel). At the moment DeltaHawk’s V4 has an output from 160-200 hp, and a 260hp V6 is under development.

i would like to know your price for a delta hawk motor to install in a 2 + 2 hobbyist sportsman build. My design of my plane is 70% I am making my choice for an engine and I would like to install a diesel there because I have worked all my career in heavy machinery diesel and I like diesel engines because I know their performance,
