EASA announces new Executive Director

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has announced the appointment of Patrick Ky as its new Executive Director.
Ky is currently Executive Director of the Single European Sky Air Traffic Management Research (SESAR). He will take over from current director Patrick Goudou from 1 September 2013. Goudou has been Director of the Agency since its creation in 2003.
Prior to leading SESAR, Ky has held a variety of managerial positions in the French CAA and Eurocontrol. In 2004, he joined the European Commission to work on SESAR.
Ky is also a PPL holder and has over 23 years of work experience in the aviation industry.
Martin Robinson, CEO of AOPA UK told FLYER, “IAOPA Europe believes that the right person has been chosen to succeed Patrick Goudou. IAOPA has had a good relationship with Patrick Ky during his time as head of the SJU and when he was in the commission, and we will look forward to working with him in his new role as the head of EASA to build a safe, proportionate GA system in Europe which allows GA to grow in a sustainable way. Patrick Ky also holds a PPL so he has some good knowledge of the needs of GA in Europe. As the Agency’s remit expands into ATM, his background in SESAR should help to also deliver improved safety across ATM in Europe. We wish him success in his new position and we are ready as always to work with him on those key issues that affect GA in Europe.”
