GAMI announces potential 100LL replacement

All of the GA aircraft and engine manufacturers accept that 100LL is on the way out. The question is when, not if. While Continental and Lycoming are both looking at Jet A piston power, they’re also working on FADEC solutions for new and existing Avgas engines.

Research is also underway on replacement fuels. GAMI, the company behind GAMIjectors has announced successful testing of a fuel they’re calling G100UL, an unleaded aviation gasoline made from an aviation gasoline base stock.

According to GAMI it has a MON that exceeds the ASTM D910-3 specification while other properties either fully meet or are close to the D910-3 specification. There are no known toxicity, water absorption, corrosion, or compatibility issues.

GAMI say that in full scale aircraft engine testing on turbocharged high compression engines, the fuel demonstrated resistance to the onset of detonation at highly elevated engine horsepower output levels (in excess of certification levels).
