GAPAN scholarships

The Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators is offering several PPL (fixed wing) scholarships and a few FI(R) (both fixed wing and rotary) scholarships for 2006. The closing date for completed application forms is 6 April 2006. The Guild is offering 2 Jet Orientation course scholarships courtesy of EPST. Closing date 28 July 2006. The Guild is again very proud to be able to offer the J.N.Somers scholarship for a full frozen ATPL course at a CAA approved school. The closing date for receipt of completed applications by post is 16 June 2006. Training will commence early in 2007.

The Guild scholarships provide a unique opportunity for people who would like to become pilots or to further their qualifications as pilots. The criteria outlined on each form as a minimum for selection consideration is not always a reflection of CAA/JAA policy, but it is the minimum standard required by the Guild.

The aim of the Scholarships programme is to assist the successful individual, who might otherwise not have the necessary resources, to achieve their Licence. The Scholarships will cover the cost of direct training and examinations. The costs of obtaining the required Medical Certificate, and any associated travel, subsistence, and accommodation expenses are the responsibility of the Scholarship winner.

The awards are made by a Selection Committee appointed by The Guild. Candidates who are short listed for the PPL and FI(R) Rating Scholarships are required to attend at their own expense for an interview commencing early June at the London offices of The Guild. The PPL interview is preceded by a short written examination to assess numeracy, literacy and mental agility, whilst a candidate for an instructor course will be required to make a 10 minute presentation to the panel.Under no circumstances will applications be accepted by fax or email.

Training will be completed during the summer of 2006 at a UK flying school of the candidate’s choice (subject to Guild approval)
