Garmin announces range of avionics for homebuilts

Garmin has announced seven new products for experimental and light sport aircraft.
The avionics manufacturer has introduced a new Air Data Attitude Heading Reference System (ADAHRS) and an Engine Indication System (EIS) interface module. Garmin has introduced new options including a fully integrated Garmin autopilot, an angle of attack probe and a remote mount ADS-B receiver.
“These new products are designed by our dedicated experimental engineering team, many of whom are pilots and homebuilders, and they have created the kind of smart, cost-friendly avionics that they want to have in their own aircraft,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin’s vice president of aviation sales and marketing.
This new Garmin equipment is non-certified, so it cannot be fitted to a certified aircraft; it can only be fitted to Permit to Fly aircraft in the UK, either amateur-built or ex-factory orphans.
Avionics can be fitted relatively simply into an LAA aircraft as a minor modification, although if an autopilot is to be part of the fit, that will demand greater investigation regarding the mounting and connection of the autopilot servo(s).
Further information about fitting these avionics to Permit aircraft is available from the LAA. www.laa.uk.com
