Garmin has revealed two new GPS units aimed at the light sport retrofit and experimental aircraft markets in the US, and equivalent markets in the rest of the world.
The GDU 370 and GDU 375 will be full-function multi-function display (MFD) units, designed to network with other Garmin products so that in the future they can provide complete PFD (primary flight display) and MFD capabilities. Gary Kelley, Garmin’s vice president of marketing, likened the units to building blocks. “Customers will be able to choose one, two or three GDU displays – whatever works best for their aircraft,” he said.
The uncertified GDU units are large, 7-inch portrait displays with multiple keys along both the side and bottom. The buttons at the bottom are ‘soft’ keys – programmable for that particular page – while the ones on the right-hand side have specific functions. There is also a rotary knob/joystick.
The new unit is expected to be on sale this month, with an expected street price of $3,295 for the GDU 370 and $3,995 for the GDU 375.
