Michael Huerta has been named as administrator of the FAA, following the Senate’s confirmation of a number of political appointees on New Years Day. Huerta has been serving as acting FAA administrator since Randy Babbitt resigned from the post in December 2011.
The appointment has been received as good news by many organisations, including the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), which stated, “We look forward to continuing our work with him on such critical issues as improving certification process and practices gobally.”
US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, said, “Michael Huerta has demonstrated extraordinary leadership as he continues to focus on enhancing the safety and efficiency of the largest aviation system in the world. Ensuring the safety of the travelling public is our top priority, and I am confident that Michael will effectively lead our aviation system as we continue to move NextGen forward.”
Huerta will continue in this post for a five year term.
