Inverness plans to exclude GA

Highland and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) has launched a consultation on the future of Inverness Airport. The company has proposed a master plan that is worrying for the GA community.

In the short term it is proposed that GA be relocated to a patch of grass to make room for extra car parking. The master plan states that ‘the continued growth in passenger activity will, over time, put increased pressure on these activities and will ultimately lead to a requirement for light aircraft to relocate away from Inverness as has been the case at other expanding regional airports.’

Under the long term heading, HIAL’s master plan states that ‘by 2030 light aircraft will have long been relocated off site’ Many in the GA community feel that HIAL, as the recipient of public money, should ensure access for GA.

HIAL has invited comments by January 19th 2007.
