Jet Age Museum open for History Festival

Following a successful preview opening over the Bank Holiday weekend, volunteers at the Jet Age Museum at Gloucestershire Airport have announced the museum is open for Gloucester History Festival on Wednesdays and weekends from 10-4pm during the festival period of the 7 to 23 September.
Museum trustee, Darren Lewington said, “Our preview weekends have had an excellent response with more than 1,000 visitors. Our museum includes a full size replica of the Gloster E28/39, the first Allied jet powered aircraft, which first flew in the city in 1941. It’s difficult to argue that jet flight isn’t Gloucester’s greatest contribution to 20th century history.
“We also have a collection of other Gloster Aircraft Company aircraft on display including the mighty delta-winged Javelin. Many people in this County have a connection with GAC and we’re proud to be able to tell their story.
“We’re still very much a ‘work in progress’ and expect to open formally in 2014 but our basic facilities are ready and the exhibits on display begin to tell the story of Gloucester’s major contribution to aviation through the years.
“We’d urge history fans to visit for a taster of what we have to offer.”
The museum is managed and staffed entirely by volunteers, has free on site parking and a cafeteria. Admission is free but donations are welcomed.
