British Aerospace Jet Provost and Strikemaster aircraft have been restricted to non-aerobatic operations by a Mandatory Permit Directive (MPD) issued by the CAA.
The MPD comes about as the result of an accident which occurred due to wing structural failure, and the directive aims to reduce the rate of fatigue damage by implementing the non-aerobatic rule.
It is possible that the MPD may be alleviated or revised when the CAA is satisfied that alternative methods have been determined and defined.
As part of the compliance procedure, aircraft have to be fitted with a placard stating “Aerobatics are prohibited”.
