Join the Spitfire Academy

For many GA pilots, the chance may just have come along to make one of your dreams come true. A new flight academy, based at Oxford Airport, is offering pilots the chance to train to fly a Spitfire. The Boultbee Flight Academy is set to begin its maiden two-day course offering four qualified pilots the chance to train using a Tiger Moth and Harvard, and then finally a fully restored two-seater Mark IX Vickers Supermarine Spitfire.
Matt Jones, Managing Director, explained, “Flying a Spitfire is every pilot’s dream. In addition to being the custodians of a Spitfire, our aim is to play a part in the preservation of the memories of this era and of the skills required to fly and maintain these wonderful aircraft. Through flight training this unique Academy is therefore going to give more pilots the opportunity to realise this dream, an unbelievable experience for anyone involved”.
Owner Steve Boultbee Brooks added, “We were looking for a safe and professional way to ensure that the Spitfire legend continues to grace our skies, the Boultbee Academy will help achieve that aim.”
The cost of the course is £4,500 plus vat.
