LAA approves uAvionix AV-30-E as backup display

The uAvionix AV-30-E electronic flight display has been approved by the Light Aircraft Association (LAA) as a backup display for Permit aircraft owners and operators in the UK.   

uAvionix said in a statement, “Why do I need a backup display you may ask? Well, anyone fitting a full EFIS to an LAA-administered aircraft without standard vacuum-driven Air Speed Indicator, Altimeter and a conventional compass must fit a multifunction back up instrument that independently provides these functions should the main EFIS become inoperable.

“Additionally, only instruments tested and approved by the LAA are eligible to be used as a backup and must be listed in an LAA document called TL3.20.  An AV-30-E can even be used as a backup to another AV-30-E installed as the primary instrument.”

The AV-30 fits in an existing 3in panel hole. It can be mounted from behind to preserve the ’round dial’ look.
