Llanbedr reopens and welcomes GA pilots

Llanbedr Airfield, a former military facility located in the Snowdonia National Park, has reopened for visiting GA aircraft.
The team at Fly Llanbedr and Llanbedr Flying Club are hoping that the airfield will offer; a service covering flying training and other aviation activities, as well a venue that supports the social side of flying. The team has said it is just finalising the commercial, environmental and community aspects of the new venture with the airfield owners (Llanbedr Airfield Estates).
The airfield’s website states, ‘Happily, some things are already in place. Licenced pilots can already rent our aircraft, aircraft can be stabled here and the runways are awaiting pilots’ arrival.’
Mike Spiers, Commercial Director at Fly Llanbedr, explained, “Opportunities for reopening airfields are rare, especially one with such an interesting history, so it really was an opportunity not to miss. The exceptional scenery en route and at the airfield, class G airspace, enormous runways and aprons and in easy reach of the beach and campsites make it a ‘must visit’ destination. Please consider visiting soon to witness the airfield waking up from its 10 year snooze, and then follow its renaissance. We have high hopes for the future, please share your thoughts with us when you pop in.”
Aviators are now able to fly in with PPR, check the website for procedures.
