Barely a year after the SkyDemon flight planning software was launched, Divelements, the company behind the software, is releasing a major upgrade. What’s more, between now and 10 February the software is available for everyone to download and try free of charge.
New features include forecast winds aloft for up to 24 hours ahead – these are not only shown on the screen but automatically incorporated into the PLOG for your planned route. There’s a Print Centre which enables users to print a full route pack containing all enroute charts, a profile view of the entire flight, plates for all relevant airfields, a comprehensive PLOG containing all frequencies likely to be used, a TAF/METAR brief and a narrow route NOTAM brief.
Perhaps the most exciting development is the arrival of SkyDemon’s 2-click flight plan filing. Plan your route, click a couple of times and, providing you’re online, your VFR flight plan has been correctly addressed and filed. What’s more, through SkyDemon’s website users can cancel, delay or close their filed flight plan. (Flight plan filing costs £10 per year for unlimited flight plans, but users can try the feature free of charge until 10 February.)
Finally, SkyDemon has introduced a climb/descent element to the software with a revamped flight modeling engine, so with enhanced data on aircraft performance users are now able to calculate and display accurate fuel burn and cost for a flight in real time as the route is planned
Existing SkyDemon customers with active subscriptions receive all such software upgrades free of charge. Any SkyDemon purchase includes charts for most of Europe (updated every 28 days) and 12 months of live NOTAM and weather briefing. Flying clubs can license SkyDemon to provide a world-class briefing facility to visiting pilots for £295 excluding VAT.
