Minimalist microlight company for sale

US microlight manufacturer Quicksilver has stopped production of its minimalist aircraft after poor sales over the past two years. Assets of the California-based company will go up for auction on 3 November 2015. More than 15,000 Quicksilver aircraft have been made since the company started in the late 1970s.

Quicksilver boss Will Escutia blamed the high cost of running a business in California, as well as a drop in sales.

17 Quicksilver aircraft are listed on the UK register. There are two main models, the MX open fuselage original and the later GT500 with a front nose enclosure. In 2014 Quicksilver received FAA approval for a Special LSA version of the Sport 2S.

Parts for the aircraft will continue to be available from long-standing Quicksilver dealer Air-Tec.
