New flying school opens in Cardiff

A new flying club has been launched in South Wales. Avi8tors Flying Club has been established by commercial pilot Gareth Burgess, who says he aims to create a ‘proper flying club’ which is diverse and friendly, as well as promoting greater GA activity in South Wales.
Avi8tors will be based at St Athan with an initial fleet of two Cessna 150s for training, a Robin R3000 and Piper Cherokee Arrow for four-seat trial lessons, PPL hire and a SA Bulldog for aerobatic training.
Avi8tors is also collaborating with Horizon Aircraft Services at St Athan (formerly Hunter Flying Ltd) including use of their maintenance facility. A building adjacent to Horizon will become the base for the new Avi8tors Flying Club. As well as PPL training, Gareth and the team will offer night ratings, IMC training, licence revalidation, aerobatic training and use of the club. Gareth has also explained he is negotiating with Cardiff airport for a base there, and has formed an association with the Cambrian Flying Club at Swansea which use PA-38 Tomahawks and a Cherokee 180 for training.

    Good Morning Gareth
My son who lives in Pendoylan is considering taking flying lessons and we would like to arrange a trial flight for him as a gift
Can you confirm his best options please so that it may go towards his PPL
Maybe I could join him as a spectator on a trial flight
Brod sends his regards and I am now retired altogether
    Hoping to hear soon
    Yours Dennis Willmott

      Hello Dennis

It looks as though Avi8tors is no longer operating at St Athan. There’s another flight school there which you can contact direct: https://www.horizonaircraftservices.com/

      Hello
Sadly I closed Avi8tors in 2016 following a change in career path. All outstanding flight experience vouchers were flown by Aeros Flight Training and the business (Avi8tors) was subsequently shut down.
I hope you are able to assist your son in following his dream. There are many dedicated flight training organisations in the UK. My advise would be to visit a few at Airports near your home and speak with the head of training.
      Good luck and best wishes.
