The battle to save Nottingham City Airport took an unexpected turn late last week when a director of Truman Aviation, which operates the airport, claimed the property developer which owns the site will evict all tenants and close the airport by April 2025.

“Vistry Homes have advised us that they are going to serve three months’ notice on Truman Aviation Ltd and other occupiers of the Airfield to vacate the site after which they will secure the premises,” said Linda Thompson.

“Due to the planning position at present Truman Aviation Ltd want all Occupiers of the Airfield and any other interested parties to support the Vistry Planning permission,” Ms Thompson continued.

“This is so the Airfield may be occupied until at least any building work is due to commence and so allow Vistry Homes to withdraw their notice to vacate.”

According to Ms Thompson, who posted the statement on Facebook, if campaigners do not agree to Vistry Homes’s terms, this will happen:

  • The café will be shut down in April 2025.
  • The runways will not be accessible from April 2025.
  • All staff employed by Truman Aviation Ltd and Nottingham City Airport Ltd will be made redundant.
  • The Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance will not be able to continue at the Airfield after April 2025.
  • National Grid and the Police will also be affected as they use the Airfield as a base for fuelling up.
  • Owners of aircraft will not have sufficient time to remove and relocate their aircraft.
  • The flying schools will have to close earlier than expected.
  • The maintenance organisation will close.
