Oban Airport latest

Amid rumours of imminent job losses and restricted services, it appears that Oban Airport will continue, for now at least.
Martin Gorringe, Operations Manager (Marine and Airports) from Argyll and Bute Council, which owns and operates the airfield, along with Coll and Colonsay, explained, “The position at Oban is that the Council was obliged to re-tender the PSO late last year after Highland Airways went into administration. The tenders submitted as a result of this exercise were beyond the budget available and as a consequence the council is now seeking to re-tender the PSO in tandem with offering a tender for the management of the airports. There will be an impact on the present employees but this is not finalised as yet and consultations are in progress.
“The principal reason behind all of this is to ensure that the airport remains as a viable entity that can thrive in the future. There are interested parties but any decision will not be made until later in March this year.”
