The manager of Old Sarum Airfield, which is nearly 100 years old, has shared plans for the airfield’s regeneration. A planning application for the proposals known as “Sarum Landings” will be submitted by the owners by the end of the year.
Angus Beale, Manager at Old Sarum Airfield, explained that the plans will involve redevelopment of the airfield and will include new aviation facilities to bring new life to the airfield. The facilities will include a new restaurant, club room and pilot’s area as well as conference, archive and heritage centres. Building these new facilities will enable the existing WWI hangars to be renovated and their original setting restored. These will house historic flying aircraft to bring the long heritage of the airfield to life. Old Sarum Airfield Ltd is also working with the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection Museum to bring historic aircraft to part of the Museum’s First World War hangar.
