PFA launches 115 kg microlight competition

The PFA has launched a competition to design an aircraft which meets the requirements of the proposed new deregulated single-seat sub-115 kg microlight category.

The competition will ask entrants to submit their designs to one of two categories: either ‘simple’ or ‘state of the art’.

In the ‘simple’ category, you will have to just provide a ‘three-view drawing, a report describing the airframe/engine and control system, the projected weight and balance and the projected performance.’ You’ll also have to be prepared to provide plans and build the aircraft.

For the ‘state of the art’ category, more documentation will be needed: a full component weight breakdown and a justification of the performance projections.

The prizes are still be finalised – they’ll be announced soon.
