FLYER can reveal that Red Bull Air Race GmbH has confirmed that it ‘may consider a one-year break in 2011.’
A statement from the race organisers continues, “Following 10 years of rapid growth, the break which is under consideration would allow the organization the opportunity to fast track the technological advancements currently in the making which would further improve the already high levels of safety.
‘Furthermore, the considered break would provide an opportunity to revise the main organization and the commercial areas of the sport including the development and reinforcement of strong host city partnerships to secure a long term race calendar.’
This statement follows a challenging year for the air race that has seen two legs of the series – in Portugal and Budapest – cancelled, as well as an accident during training in Perth for competitor Adilson Kindlemann of Brazil which put him out for the rest of the series.
