Rochester Airport secures 25 year lease

Rochester Airport has secured a 25 year lease, following investment from Medway Council. The work from the investment included the removal of the north west quadrant meaning the closure of Runway 34/16, funding for a paved runway and other infrastructure. This work has been taken with a view to securing the long term future of the airfield.
There will be a cap on annual movements and licensed opening hours although late movements by residents remain unaffected. The Airport will remain available for military and emergency services 24 hours a day. Medway Council is determined to make this project work and theCabinet has already adopted the plan which was ratified by full Council on 23 January 2014. Planning permission now has to be sought for the new runway and infrastructure works.
