Rolls-Royce has unveiled a new turboprop which it hopes will ‘capture significant market share in the light, fixed-wing general aviation segment’.

The RR500 is multi-fuel capable, can develop 350 to 450 shp and should give ‘excellent alittude performance’. It is based on the RR300, which was introduced last year to power the upcoming Robinson R66.

According to the Rolls-Royce ten-year market forecast, ‘2500 to 3000 of these light [light, fixed-wing general aviation] aircraft will be delivered annually between 2010 and 2020’. The company already has a production line producing the RR300, which will also be able to turn out the RR500.
