Sporty’s Pilot Shop has awarded a Cessna Citation Mustang jet – Cessna’s newest and smallest personal jet – in an auction. The buyer, who paid $3,117,000 for the aircraft, has requested anonymity.
He is expected to take ownership of the jet around now from the facility in Independence, Kansas, and will get training at FlightSafety International (the training was included in the purchase price).
The auction was held to benefit The Sporty’s Foundation which was established to encourage more people to come into general aviation. $500,000 went into the Foundation’s funds as a result of the auction.

Antoher thing for which Sporty’s is famous is its barbecues. The company holds weekly ‘cookouts’ for its customers, this week it served its 150,000th hot dog. Phil Boyer, President of AOPA, was there to eat that milestone sausage-in-a-bun.
