Take Off charity celebrates first solo

Take Off, an organisation which was established as a registered charity last year to provide flying scholarships for young people in Scotland, has achieved a major milestone with the successful first solo flight of one of its scholarship winners.
Logan Clarke, 18, (pictured) a former pupil at Perth Grammar School, was one of six boys and two girls selected last year to undertake ten hours of flying training under the scholarship scheme. Most of these first year students have completed their scholarship course and Logan, who is hoping to join the Royal Navy, became the first to solo in March this year. He is now continuing his training to gain his national private pilot’s licence.
Training is conducted by the Scottish Microlight Flight Centre in the Scottish Aero Club’s Eurostar fixed-wing microlight aircraft at Perth Airport.
In its first year of operation, Take Off collaborated with Perth and Kinross Council to provide the eight flying scholarships for pupils in the local authority’s area. The Council is continuing its support for the scheme this year and is providing funding for one scholarship for each of five schools – Perth Academy, Perth Grammar School,
Perth High School, St John’s Academy, Perth and Blairgowrie High School. Selection of these candidates will begin shortly.
