Thielert introduces the Centurion 2.0

There’s a lot going on at Thielert at the moment. Last month we reported on it good end to 2006, and now the company – which manufactures aviation diesel engines – has announced that its Centurion 2.0 engine, which it has been talking about for some time, is now ready for users to install.

The new engine, which is the successor to the Centurion 1.7, is pretty much entierly compatible with the 1.7, which means that if you’ve got a 1.7 installed, putting the 2.0 in when the 1.7 reaches the end of its life will be a breeze. In addition, any aircraft which are cleared to use the 1.7 will be able to use the 2.0 without modification.

The 2.0 has primarily been developed from the 1.7 to allow the company to break further into the American market, and for that reason has greater displacement than the 1.7. The company claims that well over 1,500 examples of the 1.7 have been built, and it has amassed over 350,000 flight hours.

The engine is mainly flying in Diamond Aircraft, although company says that the ‘Centurion 2.0 is certified for installation in all model ranges of the Cessna 172 in 40 countries’ and it is actively pursuing other installation options. Cessna is reported to be considering a Centurion engine for its Next Generation Piston aircraft, and the engines have also been fitted to PA-28 and Robin examples.
