Tiger Moth bursaries announced for 2014

The de Havilland Educational Trust has announced a number of flying and engineering bursaries for 2014. The Fiona McKay Flying Bursary will assist the conversion of British-based PPL holders onto Tiger Moth aircraft as an introduction to their continuing involvement with vintage aircraft. The bursary will provide for up to five hours flying on a Tiger Moth (subject to a maximum level of funding) at a DHET approved training establishment of the recipient’s choice.
At the time of their application, candidates must be in possession of a valid PPL appropriate to flying a Tiger Moth aircraft in British airspace, with a minimum of 75 hours pilot in command. The bursary will be valid from the date of the award in the spring of 2014 until 31 December 2015.
Written applications will be scrutinised by an expert panel and a short list drawn up from which candidates will be called forward for interview.
The Amy Johnson Engineering Bursary, meanwhile, is designed to assist the personal development of engineers involved with vintage aircraft. The bursary will be known as the ‘Amy Johnson Engineering Bursary’.
The closing date for applications for the busaries is 31 March 2014. Application forms are available from
