Top Nav introduces third venue in 2015

The Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN) has for some years held an annual navigation competition for flyers within GA. In recent years the popularity of the event has fallen mainly due to the increased cost of flying. The year 2014 appeared an ideal time to improve the event in two ways;
a. Reduce the pre-flight stress by allowing more planning time and reduce the crew workload.
b. Introducing a youth element into the competition.
The pre-flight planning is now simpler allowing more time for the crews to discuss how they will navigate the route. The challenge remains but we feel we have increased the ‘fun’ element. A team of four crews from the Spirit of Goole project became the first young competitors flying from Gamston on a reduced route lasting approximately 55 minutes. The youngsters did very well and were awarded by receiving their certificates from our Patron HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, at the Institute’s AGM. In addition the project received a voucher kindly donated by Pooleys.
For 2015 we are increasing involvement by introducing a third venue, the airfields will be White Waltham, Sherburn in Elmet and, the new venue, Bodmin.
The competition will be flown on Saturday 9th May with a weather reserve of Saturday 16th.
