Tornado hits Sun n Fun

Sun n Fun, which is taking place at Lakeland, Florida, has been hit by a Tornado which has left a scene of wrecked aircraft in its wake, with damage estimated to be in the millions of dollars. “There was a lot of property damage,” Lakeland police officer Terri Smith was reported as saying, “and a number of bumps and scrapes, but no serious injuries that we know of.” Early reports that a building had collapsed trapping 70 people inside were later found to be incorrect.
The events website reported, ‘The SUN ‘n FUN  International Fly-In & Expo… experienced severe weather this afternoon  that caused significant damage to an estimated 50 exhibitor and privately owned aircraft as well as a large number of tents and other temporary structures.  No major injuries were reported, although 15 people were treated for injuries at Sun ‘n Fun’s on-site medical hospitality center. Seven of those were subsequently transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.’
The first two days of the event had been marked by heavy rainfalls which had kept a number of visitors away. The show is expected to re-open today, with clear weather predicted through the weekend.
